For anyone who doesn't know, THIS is a Paternoster
And in actual fact, that video is of THE Paternoster at my uni. I go up and down on that thing a few times a week *smug face*
It's not as scary or as dangerous as it looks, although I have had to do some crazy acrobatics to get on and off it. And I have never been over the top or underneath (I'm a fraidy cat...)
At first I was SO scared of getting on it; now it is just a means of travel, which is much more pleasant than the stairs. There are eighteen flights...
Why this blabber about the Paternoster? Well it's actually a great place to get lost in thought. For some reason, whenever I step on to it on my own I suddenly become deeply reflective.
Yesterday, for example, I was riding the Paternoster to go and speak to my Old English tutor (as I am doing...not so great...) and for 13 floors I thought about how far I had come in a year and a bit. Thirteen months ago I began my university life. Thirteen months ago, I was a different person to who I am now. Thirteen months ago I was very frightened and felt very small.
Now, feeling frightened and small has not changed at all. In fact, I think there will never be a time when you are 100% confident and in control (there would be no fun in that!) But certainly the way I deal with things has improved. And I've got to say, there are wonderful people in my life, whether here or back home, or in Uganda. There has never been a stage of growing up - until now- that I have felt so loved ♥
Wow, mushy. Moving on!
If you recall, in my last post I mentioned a big decision. Well, the reason for the mush is a literary tool - it will make my big decision seem bigger *English student wink face.*
One of the reasons I chose to come to this University was because it provided opportunities for studying abroad. So there you have it. After a year and a bit of debate, I have finally made the decision to study abroad. For an entire year.
I've chosen to go to Leipzig in East Germany. *cue string of inappropriate language* I'm such a glass case of emotion right now!
So my big decision? I'm leaving all I know and love to live and study in a new country; and I'm so excited.
